Services Provided:

Counseling Services for children, families, adults and seniors: addresses special needs, situational and behavioral problems. Excludes psychiatric services, but referrals are made to their SE location. Cost: Sliding scale based on income, charges for no-show appointments. Appointments scheduled on weekdays.

Free Family Violence Intervention Program: outreach, education, counseling, safety planning, case management, legal assistance for survivors of partner abuse and their children.

Mentors of Mothers (MOMs): services for pregnant and parenting teens in CPS; group sessions for healthy parenting.

School-based Services: classroom workshops for school-aged children and their families enrolled in neighborhood schools. Involves skill-building in conflict resolution, violence prevention, and communication. Individual and group counseling.

Southside Teens About Respect (STAR): classroom workshops for adolescents in local schools for healthy relationships and dating violence prevention as well as peer leadership and activism.

Youth Center: after-school and summer youth development programs with tutoring, sports, drama, and peer mediation, for ages 6-17. Programs typically run from September to May, so check in May for openings.

Services Provided: Combating crime and facilitating violence prevention by helping people sow seeds back into their communities. Create "Villages" of 10-20 blocks where youth build relationships with neighbors. Resources provided by local organizations. $5 monthly membership--can sell raffle tickets to compensate for monthly fee; $1 per month commitment is asked from residents of villages.

Community meetings: all communities come together to debrief about previous weekend trips and village work on the fourth weekend of every month.

Essay Contest: 3-sentence essay contest with $100 prize for youth members of NBCU.

Pennies to Africa: Youth-led fundraiser for partnering African countries.

Work, Recreation, Training (WRT): Monthly trips when youth travel to cities to help set up villages by going door to door, contributing to communities through community service activities, life-skills training, having fun together through recreational activities, and learning how to do grassroots organizing in communities. Out of town overnight trips: ages 14-21 and local city trips: ages 5-13 every third weekend of the month.

20 Career Clubs: for youth interested in particular careers; business people from various careers mentor and provide more first-hand information about their work.

Services Provided: Membership for fitness center with swimming pool as well as access to other YMCA locations. Monthly rates: Single adult - $35, Family - $50, Youth (18 and under) - $15, Seniors - $33. Membership based on income so households earning less that $55,000 per year qualify for a 35-95% discount.

Aerobics: (ages 16 and up) free with membership, $25 for 6 week session for program members. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 9-10am and Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:15-6:15pm.

After school Program: Homework assistance, arts and crafts, swimming, soccer, occasional field trips; ages 5 to 12; children selected through Action For Children (child care subsidy program); Monday to Friday 2:30 - 6pm on school days; non school days 9 to 6; subsidy and private pay.
